My husband and I are purchasing a fifth wheel through a private party. She wants a $1,000.00 deposit until we can get the financing. If the financing falls through she wants to keep the money. I know on car purchases here in California, or purchasing an RV through a dealer that the deposit is refundable. Do you know what the law is for California with a private party?

Since she isn't a dealer it doesn't seem she should have to refund your deposit. She may have turned down other buyers because you said you would take it so should get to keep it especially since you agreed.
